War in Ukraine changes more than lives. It transforms landscapes, ecosystems, human relationships and the way people experience the world around them. How do these changes affect mental health, resilience and society’s ability to recover during and after war?

The full-scale war in Ukraine has changed not only people but also the environments they inhabit. Forests have been burned and mined, coastlines militarized, and familiar sounds replaced by drones and explosions. For many Ukrainians, nature itself has become associated with danger rather than safety. At the same time, nature remains one of the most powerful resources for psychological recovery. This creates a broader question for society: how do war, trauma and prolonged uncertainty reshape the relationship between people, places and community? This event marks the opening of The Force of Nature, a photo exhibition created by Repower in partnership with Lumell Associates. Importantly, the exhibition itself does not focus on destruction, violence or loss. Instead, it highlights beauty, presence, connection and the remarkable human capacity to recover.
