    War-related sounds such as drones, sirens and explosions can cause long-term trauma in children and youth. This issue highlights how sensory experiences of war affect mental health, integration and recovery long after conflict and displacement have ended.

    This panel discussion explores the long-term psychological impact of war-related sounds on children and young people affected by the war in Ukraine. While the physical consequences of war are widely recognized, the effects of constant exposure to drone noise, air raid sirens, explosions, and other sounds associated with danger receive less attention. Research and lived experiences show that such sounds can become powerful trauma triggers, affecting mental health, learning, sleep, and social well-being long after the immediate threat has passed. The discussion will examine how sound functions as a form of psychological stress in modern warfare, how auditory trauma can persist after displacement, and what lessons can be drawn from both contemporary and historical conflicts. The format is a moderated panel discussion followed by audience questions. No prior preparation is required from participants.
