Beskrivning av samhällsfrågan

Sweden may be making the energy transition far more expensive than necessary. This seminar explores how decentralized EnergyNet systems, extreme efficiency and strategic sustainability planning could accelerate electrification while reducing costs, emissions and resource use.

Utökad information om evenemanget

Sweden and Europe are rapidly electrifying transport, industry and cities. But are we building the transition in the most affordable and sustainable way? Previous studies indicate that a renewable-based energy system could cost around 1000 billion SEK less than one heavily dependent on new nuclear power. Using scenarios developed in the Roadmapper platform, the seminar explores whether costs could be reduced even further through: Decentralized EnergyNet systems with smart microgrids, local energy sharing and storage. “Extreme efficiency” in buildings and infrastructure to reduce energy and material demand. Using a strategic sustainability perspective developed at BTH, and examples from the upcoming BTH campus transformation project, the discussion broadens beyond energy alone so that the transition is evaluated not only by energy costs, but also by emissions, land use, material choices and social sustainability.
