Beskrivning av samhällsfrågan
With an expansionist Russia and an uncertain transatlantic link, Europe faces an urgent need to strengthen its military capabilities. However, the question remains: how can European states and the defense industry cooperate effectively to ensure strategic autonomy and operational readiness?
Utökad information om evenemanget
The need for rapid military build-up in Europe is evident, but the European defense industrial landscape remains fragmented. While joint projects such as the sixth-generation fighter jet, advanced submarine programs, and next-generation sensor systems are emerging, national interests often hinder deeper cooperation. At the same time, European states must find a way to balance national control with EU-driven initiatives, ensuring that public-private partnerships in the defense sector can function efficiently. A key question is whether Europe can consolidate its defense industry to reduce inefficiencies and boost competitiveness. Europe must also navigate the complexities of arms exports, balancing strategic autonomy with regulatory challenges and geopolitical considerations. The role of the EU and member states in coordinating defense industry efforts remains a crucial issue, as does the question of how joint European projects can build on past successes.
