Games have both a huge environmental footprint and the potential for positive impact and sparking change. Now that Trans- Atlantic relations are breaking, how can the EU, with the help of Swedish game makers and academia, take a leadning position in games and sustainability?

This panel discussion with representatives from the Climate Special Interest Group of the International Game Developers Association, a Swedish game designers, and resaerchers in IT and Game Design, a well as civic society actors will first explain what we need to do to make games sustainable from the perspectives of the participants. We want to discuss what a meaningful sustainability goal beyond greenwashing is, how we could reach it, and what we as researchers and developers could do to promote the creation of relevant and well-informed policy. The panel will close by presenting a starting point for policy recommendations towards Sweden and the EU as well as actionable next steps to make sustainable games in the EU a reality.
